In our practice, a common concern we frequently address is the issue of loose skin on the face and neck. The decline in collagen and elastin production, beginning as early as the late 20s, results in loose skin and the development of lines and wrinkles. While these changes often precede sagging of the facial supportive tissue, there are now advanced technologies available to provide skin tightening without the need for a facelift.
Radiofrequency Energy
Radiofrequency energy (RF) has emerged as a key tool for tightening the skin on the face and neck. At Beaty Facial Plastic Surgery, we utilize cutting-edge RF devices, including Profound, Pixel 8 RF, and FaceTite, each with a distinct role in treating loose skin associated with aging.
Profound, a microneedle-based device, stimulates collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid formation, enhancing skin structure, tightness, and volume. This office procedure, performed under local anesthesia, entails minimal recovery time, with gradual skin tightening over 6-9 months and results lasting for 2 or more years.
Pixel 8 RF, a topical microneedle device, improves skin tone, texture, and tightness while addressing fine lines, wrinkles, and scars. Similar to other devices like Morpheus 8, Sylfirm X, and Infini, it requires only topical anesthesia and results in pinkish skin for a day or two, without extended recovery.
FaceTite, a semi-surgical procedure, employs RF energy to tighten lower face and neck skin. This office-based procedure, frequently combined with submental liposuction, yields skin tightening over several weeks, with results lasting up to 2 years. Mild sedation and local anesthesia are typically required, with some bruising and swelling for 5 to 7 days.
Additional options
Laser resurfacing, utilizing CO2 and Erbium YAG lasers at Beaty Facial Plastic Surgery, addresses skin tightening along with lines, wrinkles, and pigment irregularities. The CO2 laser is more aggressive, suitable for deeper lines, while the Erbium YAG laser improves skin texture and fine lines. Both lasers are performed in-office under nerve blocks and mild sedation, with recovery times ranging from 3-10 days based on the extent of resurfacing.
These advanced skin tightening technologies are integral to managing the aging face, enabling our patients to maintain a fresh and vital appearance.
