Juvéderm Volbella® XC

What is Juvéderm Volbella® XC?

Juvéderm Volbella® XC was developed as a more subtle offering for adding volume to the lips. Juvederm® Ultra XC was the first dermal filler for the lips, but some people believe it adds too much volume. Ultra is intended to visibly plump the lips, adding volume. Volbella is subtler. It adds volume that isn’t immediately obvious, and it smoothes the vertical lip lines that come with age.

What areas can be treated with Juvéderm Volbella®?

Juvéderm Volbella® XC is only used on the lips to add volume and erase vertical lip lines. This may seem redundant, as Juvéderm Ultra XC is already available for the lips. But Volbella was created to deliver more subtle final results, whereas Ultra provides more obvious volume and shape. You could say Ultra is showy, while Volbella seeks a natural enhancement.

Who is a good candidate for Volbella®?

An unfortunate part of aging is that our lips thin with age. Some people simply have never been satisfied with the volume or definition of their lips. Others feel as if their lips aren’t defined as much as they would like. Juvéderm Volbella® XC can be used on patients wishing to add subtle volume and shape to their lips. It will help define the borders of your lips as well. Plus, it erases the vertical lines that come from volume loss. Juvéderm Volbella® XC does this without overtly enlarging the lips. Your results will look completely natural.

How is Volbella® administered?

Dr. Beaty injects Juvéderm Volbella® XC with a very tiny needle. Volbella contains lidocaine in the formula, so there isn’t any need for pre-treatment topical anesthetic. A session with Dr. Beaty usually takes around 30 minutes.

How soon will I see results after Volbella® Injections?

Once injected, Juvéderm Volbella® XC delivers instant results. The hyaluronic acid that is the majority of Volbella instantly binds with nearby water molecules to plump, firm, and add definition to your lips.

Is there downtime after treatment with Juvéderm Volbella®?

You may have some mild swelling and tenderness, but you can return to work or your typical activities immediately.

Are there side effects with Volbella®?

Since hyaluronic acid occurs naturally in the body and is the basis of all Juvéderm fillers, allergic reactions are virtually unheard of. Side effects are mild and uncommon. They include swelling, tenderness, bruising, firmness, redness, itching, dryness, and discomfort at the injection sites. These usually pass in one to two days, however some patients may experience these temporary side effects for slightly longer.

How does Volbella® compare with other Juvéderm Fillers?

Each Juvéderm filler is classified as a “natural” filler because they are made with hyaluronic acid, which is a naturally occurring substance in the body that is responsible for hydrating and plumping the skin. Juvéderm now has an entire family of dermal fillers, but only two have been created for the lips: Juvéderm Volbella® XC and Juvéderm Ultra® XC. Ultra provides more dramatic volume enhancement to the lips; Volbella adds volume and definition, but is much more subtle and natural looking.

Can Volbella® be combined with other injectables or procedures?

Since hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance in the body, Volbella injections can be combined with basically any other procedure Dr. Beaty provides.

How long do Volbella® results last?

Juvéderm Volbella® XC adds volume and definition to the lips for up to one year. At that point, your body will absorb the hyaluronic acid and another session with Dr. Beaty is in order. Research has shown that subsequent sessions require less product to achieve the same results.

Research with Juvéderm Volbella® XC has shown that 80 percent of people treated are more satisfied with the appearance of their lips one year after treatment.
