Spring Forward, Peel Back

Why do you need a chemical Peel?

Why should you consider a chemical peel?  It improves almost all skin problems and refreshes the skin for all skin types.  Chemical Peels can effectively treat a variety of skin conditions, including acne, hyper-pigmentation, fine lines, wrinkles, and sun damage. From dark to light, acne to age spots, all skin types are good candidates for chemical peels.

Light

Light chemical peels remove the outermost layer of skin, gently exfoliating and refreshing the skin with a brighter appearance. This type of peel fixes mild skin discolorations and offers a few days of downtime, allowing patients to resume normal activities shortly after the treatment.  Our office uses The Perfect Derma Peel.

Medium

Medium chemical peels penetrate the outermost layer of skin to treat the middle layer of skin. This chemical solution, usually a trichloroacetic acid mixture, removes damaged skin cells, reducing the appearance of age spots, fine lines, wrinkles, skin discolorations and roughness.  Most patients have peeling and skin irritation from 7-10 days.

Deep

During a medical grade, or deep chemical peel procedure, a sedative or pain reliever is used. The specific peeling agents may vary according to the need of each patient.  These peels are often combined with other procedures and our patients are advised to take two weeks off for recovery.  The treated area may remain pink for several months.

Why Peel?

Chemical peels use chemical acid solutions to safely remove damaged skin and reveal smoother, healthier skin.

I’ve signed up, now what?

Whether you choose a superficial chemical peel or a deep peel, it is important to prepare your skin. While it’s always a good idea to wear sunscreen, it’s especially important to apply a medical grade sunscreen, such as Elta MD, daily in the weeks before and after a deep chemical peel.

Treat the new skin gently while it is healing.  To protect your freshly rejuvenated face, neck and décolleté, moisturize the skin and apply sunscreen daily.

In addition to that extra hour of sunshine spring brings, enjoy your new glow a peel can bring.
