What is Profound?
The Profound treatment is a nonsurgical alternative for treating facial wrinkles and the appearance of cellulite. It combines radiofrequency (RF) energy with microneedling to renew your skin from within. Microneedling and RF energy delivery treatments both work through the body’s healing mechanisms for remodeling existing collagen and creating new collagen and elastin. But when you combine the two, Profound stimulates natural production increases of collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid to revitalize the skin and build new, healthy tissue.
What can Profound treat?
This treatment aims to provide many of the same benefits and results as a surgical facelift. While we’re not implying that it can replacement the extensive rejuvenation you can achieve with a true facelift, Profound delivers impressive skin tightening across the face and jowls. We also use it on other areas known for saggy skin, such as the upper arms, the décolleté, skin above the knees, and even on the abdomen.
The key to Profound is that it delivers its RF energy directly into the dermis, the skin’s second layer. There it stimulates the body to initiate a healing response, where new collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid are produced and sent to the area. These combine to tighten and firm the skin, akin to what a facelift does.
For cellulite, the same increases triggered by the RF microneedling dramatically decrease the appearance of cellulite in a single treatment.
How is a Profound treatment done?
These are single treatments that take about an hour. Before your Profound treatment, we numb the treatment areas with local anesthetic to ensure you’re comfortable. The Profound handpiece is moved across the treatment areas and the microneedles penetrate the epidermis down into the dermis. As the microneedles reach their depth, they emit radiofrequency energy at the same time. This is the key to Profound’s impressive results. Other procedures deliver RF energy downward onto the skin and it has to first penetrate the outer layer, the epidermis, before it can enter the dermis, where the heat will trigger the wound response that improves the skin. When RF energy is delivered onto the outer skin, the energy must be dramatically decreased so as not to burn the outer skin. But Profound delivers the RF energy directly into the dermis from the gold-plated microneedling tips. By delivering the energy directly into the dermis, we can use higher levels of energy, and this creates much more impressive skin tightening.
