We may do something about our facial aging, turning back the clock 10 years or so. But then we leave our hands to give away our true age.
The backs of our hands suffer volume loss, just like our faces. The skin thins and collagen decreases. This brings the veins and tendons to the forefront and creates a raised, ropy appearance. Throw in sun damage that creates mottled pigmentation and wrinkles, and our hands start to look like the host of Tales from the Crypt!
Dr. Beaty offers various treatments to rejuvenate your hands: laser resurfacing, volume augmentation, microneedling and platelet-rich plasma.
Laser Resurfacing
Dr. Beaty uses a unique CO2 laser that is specifically designed for use on the hands and forearms. This laser deliver fractionated CO2 energy to the hands, delivering results without downtime. The laser energy starts a process where the skin texture improves, pigment irregularities even out, and the skin tightens.
Volume augmentation
The backs of the hands can really use a little help in the volume department. Volume loss is why our veins and tendons seem to have risen with the passing years. Although people associate dermal fillers with the face, many can also effectively add volume to the hands. Dr. Beaty may use Radiesse, Sculptra, Juvederm or other hyaluronic acid fillers, or even the patient’s own autologous fat. This increased volume decreases the appearance of veins and tendons.
Microneedling and PRP
Microneedling, where a pen with nine tiny needles creates hundreds of microscopic punctures across a treatment area, initiates a healing response in the skin. This response involves the production of new collagen (the skin’s structural support protein) to heal the perceived wounds.
Dr. Beaty combines microneedling with platelet-rich plasma (PRP). PRP is created by taking a vial of the patient’s blood, removing the red blood cells so that all is left is plasma, white blood cells, and blood platelets. This is platelet-rich plasma. When applied after the hands have received microneedling, the PRP is able to penetrate the skin and put its healing properties to work.
