Lasers are usually seen blasting big stuff like in Star Wars or The Avengers. But they come in pretty handy for blasting millions of little-unwanted things — hair. At Beaty Plastic Surgery, we use the latest laser technology to get rid of your unwanted hair permanently.
Who likes shaving?
About the only people who like shaving are 15-year-old boys. And the only reason they like it is that it’s new, and it makes them feel like an adult. Give them some time.
The rest of us are soooooooo over the grind of shaving. For women, the endless process of plucking, waxing, shaving, and using harsh chemicals to get rid of your unwanted hair is like the movie Groundhog Day. Every two weeks or so you do it all over again. And this doesn’t address the side issues such as razor burn and the pain of waxing.
Zap those hairs
Laser hair removal at Dr. Beaty’s is the way to break the endless routine. Our patients have laser removal performed all over their bodies: face, legs, armpits, bikini line, and others areas. Men have it done on their chest and back mainly.
The first step of our laser hair removal is to calibrate the laser. This is done, so the laser light wavelength is right for your skin tone, hair color, hair thickness, and hair location. We test the setting first, usually on a small area. When we like the result, we move on to larger, more visible locations. The hand piece emits an extremely short burst of laser light onto the skin. On the hair in the area, the light energy travels down the individual hairs and converts into heat. This heat continues downward into the hair follicle, permanently damaging it and preventing or thoroughly decreasing future hair production. You’ll feel a slight feeling of a pinprick sensation when the laser light is emitted onto your skin, but we apply a numbing cream before the procedure to eliminate pain. It’s quite simple.
Results
The success of laser hair removal is dependent on the phase of the growth cycle the hair in the target area is in. To be effective, the hair has to be in the growth phase, and this isn’t easy because every hair operates individually, moving in and out of the different phases. That’s why multiple laser hair removal sessions are needed, to catch more hair in the correct phase. After your first session, and subsequent sessions, you will notice the hair falling out. But the process isn’t immediate and can take up to several weeks to fully run its course. But among patients who have returned for an average of 3-5 sessions, over 90% of them experience permanent hair loss in the treated areas.
