Can You Hear the Skin Tightening Sound of Ultherapy?
- Posted on: Jul 30 2020
There isn’t a person out there over 30 who couldn’t use a little toning and tightening across their face, jawline, neck, and décolletage. A facelift will accomplish those things, but many patients don’t feel ready to have full cosmetic surgery just yet.
For them, ultrasound can be sweet music to their ears, because Dr. Beaty offers Ultherapy®, a non-surgical skin lifting and tightening treatment that uses ultrasound energy to do the work. Ultherapy® offers a nice non-surgical alternative to Dr. Beaty’s facelift surgeries.
What is Ultherapy?
Ultrasound is nothing new in the medical world. It’s been used for over 50 years in imaging. Most everyone knows it from obstetrics. Ultherapy® is the only non-invasive procedure approved by the FDA that uses ultrasound energy to lift the skin on the face, neck, under the chin, and even on the brows.
How does Ultherapy work?
The magic of ultrasound energy is that it can easily pass right through the epidermis, the skin’s outer layer, entering directly into the dermis. When this ultrasound energy reaches the deeper levels in the skin the energy heats up the skin’s foundation. If the body senses heat below the epidermis in the dermis, it assumes the body has been wounded. Its response? To remodel the collagen in the area, and then to begin production of new collagen to “heal” the wound. Of course, there is no actual injury. The new collagen and skin cells improve the tone and texture of the skin in the treatment area for weeks following your Ultherapy® session.
That’s the Ultherapy® difference — ultrasound energy. Various laser skin tightening procedures can damage the epidermis while trying to get through to the dermis. This can cause pain and hyperpigmentation. The ultrasound energy in Ultherapy® doesn’t do that.
Would I be a good candidate for Ultherapy?
Ultherapy® delivers some of the same tightening effects as a facelift, but let’s not get carried away and say it delivers the same results as a surgical facelift. Ultherapy is a good option for patients that may not need a facelift just yet. Ultherapy® is a good procedure for candidates who have mild to moderate skin laxity across the eyebrows, the neck, under the chin, and who have lines or wrinkles on the décolletage.
Ultherapy® won’t replace a facelift, but it is a good alternative for patients who either don’t want to have surgery or are looking for ways to extend a prior facelift, neck lift, or brow lift.
