Can I get eyelid surgery in my 20’s and 30’s
Eyelid surgery is often one of the earliest interventions we perform for aging face concerns. Extra folds of skin can appear on the upper eyelids very early in life for some people. The best way to manage this problem is an upper eyelid blepharoplasty surgery. This procedure removes the excess skin and recontours the underlying muscle to improve eyelid shape. It may also help with ease of makeup application by providing a smoother eyelid platform.
Upper eyelid blepharoplasty is often performed in the office on younger patients under local anesthetic or with oral sedation. Recovery is generally rapid, with most patients feeling fine in a day or two. There is some bruising expected which is usually mild and is either resolved or manageable with makeup in about a week.
Lower eyelids rarely show problems with excess skin in your twenties. Some patients, however, have bulging lower lids early in life, even as young as in your thirties. In some cases this is the result of the natural contours of the lower lid fat pads being more full than normal. In these cases lower lid blepharoplasty through an inside the lid incision may be useful. This approach allows reshaping the fat pads of the lower lid with no visible scar.
Often, fat may be used to augment volume deficits below the lid as well. Lower eyelid blepharoplasty is performed in an outpatient setting and usually requires general anesthesia. Recovery is rapid with some bruising and swelling for several days being the most common issues.
Consulting with one of our facial plastic surgeons is the first step in deciding if eyelid surgery is right for you. Age is not so much a factor as the desired changes in the eyelids.
