Light to Medium Chemical Peels

Superficial and medium chemical peels use chemical solutions such as salicylic, trichloroacetic or glycolic acid to remove damaged skin and reveal smoother, younger looking skin.

Light chemical peels remove the outermost layer of skin, gently exfoliating and refreshing the skin with a brighter appearance. This type of peel fixes mild skin discolorations and offers little to no downtime, allowing patients to resume normal activities shortly after the treatment.

Medium chemical peels penetrate the outermost layer of skin to treat the middle layer of skin. This chemical solution, usually a trichloroacetic acid mixture, removes damaged skin cells, reducing the appearance of age spots, fine lines, wrinkles, skin discolorations and roughness.

How many treatments are necessary for visible improvement?

After one treatment, skin tone and complexion will appear smooth, glowing and fresh. Depending on skin conditions, multiple treatments may be necessary for the desired results. A series of 2-3 treatments applied once every 4 weeks will allow for optimal results for more severe skin conditions such as Melasma and active acne.

How long will my results last?

As long as the skin is maintained with proper skin care products like the Perfect A, the Perfect C, and the Perfect Bleaching Cream the improved results will last. We recommend two to three treatments of the Perfect Derma Peel per year to sustain desired results for regular maintenance and rejuvenation.

What skin types respond well to the Perfect Derma Peel?

All skin types are safe to treat and will benefit from the Perfect Derma Peel.

How severe is the peeling and what is the duration of the peeling process?

The amount of peeling skin associated with the peel is mainly a sloughing of thin sheets of epidermis skin that begins around day three and generally is completed by day six or seven.

What will I look like during the Perfect Derma Peel treatment process and post peel?

Immediately after the peel has been applied the skin will either appear red, like a sunburn, or darker. On day three, peeling will begin. The Perfect Derma Peel Moisturizer will reduce the visibility of peeling by hydrating. By day six or seven the peeling process should be complete and the results are dramatic.

Will my daily routine be affected after the treatment?

Normal activities may be resumed immediately post peel. We only recommend avoiding heavy exercise and excessive sweating during the peeling process.

How many treatments are required?

The Perfect Derma Peel may be applied initially every four weeks if necessary. Thereafter, we recommend once every 3–6 months to maintain improved skin results, as well as to prevent further aging and environmental damage.

Is sun exposure permitted post peel?

When can the patient receive his or her next treatment of The Perfect Derma Peel or Microneedling?

3-4 weeks after recovery (once the entire peel process is complete.)

Deep Chemical Peels

Deep chemical peels, or medical grade chemical peels, are facial treatments that penetrate the middle layer of the skin, removing damaged cells and stimulating the growth of new ones. Thanks to this rejuvenating process, wrinkles, fine lines, age spots, and shallow scars practically disappear. Deep chemical peels also brighten and tighten the face to give a younger, fresher look to the treated skin.

Who is a good candidate for Deep Chemical Peels?

Deep chemical peels are often recommended for patients who wish to minimize:

  • Acne scars
  • Age spots
  • Fine to moderate lines
  • Wrinkles
  • Skin discoloration

What happens during a Deep Chemical Peel?

Whether you choose a superficial chemical peel or a deep peel, it is important to prepare your skin. While it’s always a good idea to wear sunscreen, it’s especially important to apply a medical grade sunscreen, such as Elta MD, daily in the weeks before and after a deep chemical peel.

During a medical-grade chemical peel procedure, a sedative or pain reliever may be given, and general anesthesia may also be used. Dr. Beaty will thoroughly cleanse the skin and the active ingredient will be applied. These specific peeling agents may vary according to the needs of each patient.

This process may take anywhere between 30 to 60 minutes, depending on the number of areas being treated.

What to expect after a Medical Grade Chemical Peel

The chemical solution used for a medical grade chemical peel will cause the layers of damaged or dead skin to slough off. Some patients choose to take off work for about 2 weeks, as skin regrowth takes anywhere from 10 to 14 days. Patients should avoid sun exposure and smoking until the skin is fully healed, as new skin is more susceptible to damage.

To protect your freshly rejuvenated face, moisturize the skin and apply sunscreen daily, and avoid scratching the affected areas as it can reduce results.

What are the side effects of Deep Chemical Peels?

Because they penetrate the middle layers of skin, deep chemical peels may result in some side effects, including redness, peeling, and itching.

When can patients expect to see results?*

Patients should expect to see results within a week or two of the chemical peel. In order to maximize the results of your chemical peel, Dr. Beaty will provide you with post-peel instructions at the time of your treatment.
