Lesion Removal in Alpharetta & Atlanta, GA
Moles, warts and abnormal growths on the face, commonly known as facial lesions, can be unsightly and can potentially be dangerous. To prevent health risks associated with abnormal growths on the face, it is important to have a lesion removal performed by a licensed and skilled facial plastic surgeon.
Candidate for a Lesion Removal
Anyone with an abnormal growth, wart or mole on the face that needs to be removed is a good candidate for lesion removal. Those who have noticed a change in a growth or mole should have the growth removed as soon as possible, as it can indicate a serious condition.
Candidates considering a lesion removal should consult Dr. Beaty of Beaty Facial Plastic Surgery. Our double board-certified surgeon will work with each patient individually to address their facial lesions, and create a treatment plan that works best for them.
The Skin Lesion Removal Procedure
During a skin lesion removal procedure, your surgeon will administer local anesthesia and cleanse the area. Depending on the type and size of the lesion, the surgeon will perform one of the following techniques to excise it:
- Scalpel Removal: The surgeon will remove the lesion surgically.
- Electrosurgery: Removal of the lesion by destroying the tissue with an electrical current.
- Shaving/Scraping: A razor or circular cutting instrument to excise the lesion.
Once the lesion is removed, antibiotic ointment is applied and a bandage is used to cover the treated area. This procedure generally takes around 20 minutes but may take longer depending on the size of the lesion.
Lesion Removal Recovery
Results of a lesion removal are immediate, but healing may take up anywhere from a few days to a few weeks. If additional sutures are necessary, recovery may take a little more time.
After the lesion removal procedure, most patients will have minimal pain and no downtime. Most individuals can resume normal activities immediately following the procedure. An over-the-counter pain medication should be adequate for pain control, but if pain persists, Dr. Beaty may prescribe pain medication.
Patients should keep the treated area clean and covered until a scab has formed over the area. Our team will give each patient detailed post-op instructions for specific after-treatment care.

Scar Revision in Atlanta & Alpharetta, GA
Scars are caused by the body’s natural healing process in the event of trauma to the skin tissue. Poor healing or deep cuts often leave dark scars, or scarring that is raised or recessed and stands out against the surrounding skin.
Scar revision works by minimizing the appearance of a scar so that it more closely resembles the tone and appearance of the skin surrounding the scar.
While scars cannot generally be completely eliminated, they can be altered to match the surrounding area as much as possible so that they blend in more seamlessly.
Candidates for Scar Revision
Any person who has a scar that they would like to see minimized in appearance is a good candidate for scar revision, though results are best for candidates who don’t smoke and don’t have irritated skin at the site of the revision.
The Scar Revision Procedure
Because every scar is different in size, shape and appearance, our surgeon in Atlanta and Alpharetta, will determine which course of treatment based on each patient’s needs and expectations. Some scar revisions require topical treatments (applied to the scar directly) that help to reduce the appearance of the scar over time. Other recommended treatments may include skin resurfacing techniques, such as dermabrasion or laser therapy.
For more prominent scars, surgery may be the best treatment option. During a surgical scar revision procedure, Dr. Beaty will use either local or general anesthesia for the procedure. He will then use a variety of methods that may include shaving a raised scar, creating a new, less noticeable scar by breaking up the original scar or removing it in an elliptical pattern. In some cases, skin grafts or flaps may be necessary.
Results of Scar Revision
Scar revision results should be immediate, but swelling and redness may take a few days to two weeks to completely subside and reveal the full results. The scar will continue to fade over time to match the surrounding skin.

Side Effects of Scar Revision Treatment
Depending on the severity of the scar and the treatment used for scar revision, side effects may vary. Most scar revisions will result in some swelling, redness and tenderness; these side effects will subside within a few days to a few weeks after the procedure.
