Why do we recommend microneedling?
After my first microneedling treatment, I knew that I would never again pay for a facial. Granted, I’ve never found facials particularly relaxing or beneficial. But, after one microneedling treatment, I could tell a significant difference in the appearance of my face; refreshed, glowing, and oh so clean feeling skin.
When did microneedling become a popular treatment?
Microneedling is now used by plastic surgeons, dermatologists and aestheticians around the world to improve skin imperfections and maintain glowing skin. Microneedling actually dates all the way back to 1905 when Dr. Ernst Kromayer used a microneedle with an electric motor to treat scars.
This technique gained an increase in popularity in the 1990s when several studies were published showing increased collagen in microneedled skin. More recently, devices that add radiofrequency delivered through microneedles produces more dramatic and longer lasting results than traditional microneedling. In our office, we use Pixel-8RF, which compares to Vivace™, Genius®, Secret™ RF, EndyMed, Morpheus8 and Fractora.
How does microneedling work?
Needling of the skin causes micro injuries resulting in the release of growth factors and a proliferation of fibroblasts for wound healing and increased collagen deposition. Most procedures are combined with the addition of topical serums and boosting agents to further enhance results.
How often can I microneedle?
Microneedling can be done monthly for the absolute best results. It is minimally invasive and involves little to no downtime. It is also safe for all skin types. Facial redness can last from hours to a few days. It is extremely safe and effective. For best results a series of treatments are performed and may be combined with other treatment modalities. For skin health, quarterly treatments are recommended for the best results.
